This week, CNA President John O’Herron sat down with Kat Simons, Director of Public Affairs and DJ at iHeartMedia to talk about Cardinal Newman Academy.

In their wide-ranging conversation, John talked about the need and educational vision for CNA, our plans for the future, and the place that community and service holds in the formation of our students and school community.

Three years ago, a group of Catholic parents felt there was a need for a coed and independent Catholic high school in Richmond. Cardinal Newman Academy is on track to open in fall of 2017. Attorney John O’Herron said the school’s Board of Directors was motivated by two things.

A feasibility study was commissioned and the response from more than 600 catholic families was encouraging.

In the fall of 2013, a group of local parents saw a gap in the Richmond area’s educational landscape with which they weren’t too thrilled.

There were plenty of schools to choose from, but what they wanted for their children was an affordable, coeducational Catholic high school close by.
