About Yvonne Pfluger

Yvonne comes to Cardinal Newman Academy from many years of teaching chemistry and physics in Public and Private school systems in the Central Virginia area, most recently from Hanover High School as their IB Chemistry teacher.

Mrs. Pfluger is a life long learner and teacher. She is an active member of Church of the Epiphany Catholic Church. She has served in many ministries there serving currently as a Eucharistic Minister to home bound parishioners. Previously to full time teaching, Mrs. Pfluger served as a Youth and Family minister in the Diocese of Richmond leading teenagers and adults in various retreats and classes including couples in the marriage preparation program.

Mrs. Pfluger received her BS in Chemistry and certification for secondary science education from Lynchburg College (University of Lynchburg) and physics certification from UVA. Her Masters in Education specializes in Curriculum and Instruction. She is also certified in the Orton-Gillingham method for teaching Dyslexic students.

Mrs. Pfluger has taught multiple courses in chemistry and physics in Chesterfield and Hanover Counties. She also was the Secondary Physical Science lead at the MathScience Innovation Center in Mechanicsville specializing in Nanotechnology and STEM courses. She lead many expeditions with the NASA Challenger Learning Center as well as serving as the Local and State You Be The Chemist Challenge encouraging students in grades 5-8 to explore chemistry concepts and their real-world applications.

Mrs. Pfluger encourages all of her students to think critically in understanding the minutiae of matter that makes up everything in our wonderfully created world and to use our Catholic faith in praising God for the ability to apply this knowledge for the betterment of humanity.

In her spare time, Mrs. Pfluger loves feeding the birds, gardening, and spending time with her family.
